This composition is written to be accessible and educational for Level 3 performers. The suite is composed of 4 movements, I Primus, II Cantus, III Saltatus and IV Exitus. Saltatus continues immediately to Exitus (e.g., attaca) providing 3 separate musical offerings. This tile is appropriate for General Worship as a Prelude, Musical Offering and Postlude or as a school/community group performance. The movements expose performers to ensemble, contrapuntal, and call and response movements requiring the ability to play independent parts and ensuring the melody line dominates the accompaniments. Here is a short synopsis of the movements.
I Primus (“the first”), C Major – This movement provides an introduction and focuses on the ensemble.
II Cantus (“singing”), C minor – This movement requires playing independent parts and a melody beginning with the Horn that shifts to the Trumpets.
III Saltatus (“dancing”), F Major – This movement is a call (Trombone) and response (Ensemble) and includes a contrapuntal section which requires playing independent parts. Additionally, this movement proceeds directly to the next movement using an “Attaca.”
IV Exitus (“departure”), F Major – This final movement is short and fanfare-like, completing the Saltatus/Exitus movements.
